GIRL SCOUTS
Saturday a group of girl scouts came out to learn about dog breeding and raising puppies. This is Daniel giving them a ride as we run the dogs down our drive-way.
Welcome to our Blog! We raise golden retriever puppies in a family environment near Litchfield, Minnesota. Check back often for the latest Rolling Oaks Goldens puppy news!
Many of you ask if we miss the puppies after they are all gone. We kept a puppy from the Loch/Ruby litter and named her Ezra. She is such a sweet puppy and loves playing with Amy. For me personally, I am relieved that all the puppies are in their homes, and being loved and trained by all the great people who took them home! It gives me time to do the things around the farm that don't get done when we have puppies. Today, Russ and I took a long walk in the woods with Jasmine, one of our dogs, and enjoyed our freedom! When we got back, Amy was playing with Ezra, and wanted an underdog on the swing. As I pushed her and played, I couldn't help but be thankful for her life. When she had leukemia, Amy was still in the hospital, and had no hair or eye lashes, the doctor had given me a very grave report. I was holding her limp body in my arms and rocking her, and I wanted to give up. I was tired of fighting. Tired of hospitals and tubes and bad reports. My sister Joanie happened to call, and as I explained what the doctor had said, she told me to see Amy healed. To imagine her swinging on the swing, with her hair flowing in the wind. Not in the casket. Don't see death, see life! I hung up and I made up my mind that Amy was going to live. I started singing happy praise songs and seeing in my mind that she was well. She didn't get well instantly, but she did get well. One day about a year later I looked out the window, and there was Amy, swinging on the swing, her hair flowing in the wind. I cried tears of joy. Today I had that same feeling...so thankful for life. We all get busy and forget what really matters. It is my hope that our puppies bring joy into the lives of their new owners. That they remind us of that care free innocence only a puppy or child can bring. See life!
We took the puppies to the nursing home on Sunday, and as you can see by this photo, they loved it. This litter is so sweet, and were so calm for all the elderly people to hold. All the kids came home for our Christmas picture. It was so nice to have all the extra help. Puppy testing went twice as fast! It is so good for the puppies to have other people holding them and interacting with them! All the experiences this week make the puppies more confident, and a confident puppy is easier to train. Last night was their first night alone in the crates, and 9 out of eleven were clean! YEAH!
Even Samuel (and Auntie Kelly) came to help Grandma with the puppies!
Fall is my favorite season! Every year Anna and Amy bury each other in leaves. Although we are all consumed with puppies right now, it's important to take time to enjoy the free things in life! It isn't the material things that make us happy. When we finally got a new/used van after having a small car for Russ to drive to work, and a pick-up that you had to wiggle a wire to get it to start, I thought I would be so happy. But after a few months, it was just a van. It's the people in my life that make me happy. Watching Anna and Amy jumping & laughing in the leaves, without a care in the world, I was reminded of what it's all about. Drinking in those moments. Not taking life for granted. Amy spent months in the hospital battling Leukemia, and a day does not go by that I don't thank God for our health, and that we don't have to think about blood counts! If you are healthy, you are a millionaire! Because you would give all the money in the world to have your health when you are sick! When we take the puppies into a nursing home or day care, the sad people become happy! It is an amazing ministry to watch a little puppy bring so much joy, even for a few minutes. It has been a great week with Ruby's puppies, and I have to be honest in saying I am looking forward to next week with Jewel's litter. We will be going to different places, and bringing a little bit of sun shine on these cloudy days!
